For the past week, I have been walking around, trying to think of what — finally — to say about Roberto Bolaño's novel, 2666. I'm about 600 pages into Roberto Bolaño's 2666 –a book that is both horrible and hypnotic, one of the few Bolaño works I've been able to finish (Amuleto was the other one). I have very little patience for books I'm not enjoying and I have no reluctance to put a book down forever if I'm not getting "pleasure"* from it. 2666 is a novel written by Roberto Bolaño and published posthumously in Spanish in 2004. Facetious, I know, but hey, I got through the book. It was reported that he was not completely finished writing or editing the novel at the time of his death. The English translation hits stores next Tuesday and the reviews couldn't be better, especially considering the book's 912 pages. Roberto Bolaño died shortly after presenting the first draft of 2666 to his publisher, Anagrama. I can imagine that as a book 2666 would present a huge challenge to me, because it's very testing in places.
